HOOP TIME: Here at By Robert James we’re not JUST about fashion. We’re sports loving guys too  and just in time for March Madness we put in a basketball hoop at the shop to have a little fun.  

We’ll be challenging our customers to make a basket (or two) from our free throw line to win prizes and DISCOUNTS!! Who’s going to be the next Lin-sanity. HA! #sportsfan

Jonah wore a By Robert James custom made 2 button peaked lapel tux in black tone on tone herringbone with flat

front trousers, cotton pique eton collared dress shirt in white and a raw silk tie to match with a vintage tie bar.

When asked to dress Jonah Hill for the SAG Awards I was both honored and excited. Jonah is a young burgeoning star who has worked hard at the craft he loves so much and is now coming into his own in new greener pastures. We at By Robert James love to dress men up while making them feel as comfortable as they do stylish and this was yet another great opportunity.

Jonah came down to our studio boutique to get fitted as a first time client and by the time he left I felt like I had made a new friend. He went out of his way to complement the shop and was super cool and easy to work with. Jonah is so much like so many of our customers- uber talented yet unassuming and real. I love applying my craft to these men making them feel and look good. I want to thank him for taking a risk on me and the eton collar shirt which made a red carpet appearance for first time in half a century or more. – Robert James

What a night!! Last night we had the Grand Opening party of our new 3,500 sq. ft. 3-story menswear boutique! A little rain didn’t stop our friends, customers and the community come out for the celebration!  Brian Newman Quintet performed with a special burlesque show by Gal Friday. Our neighbors Interstate Food & Liquor provided delicious food and Bombay East Gin made specialty drinks that were named The Lola and The ML. The evening was a true New York night with friends, music, drinks and a GREAT TIME!

FIRE in the LES!

Last night we were leaving the shop around 3:30 am. We were standing out side and all of a sudden we hear these people who are walking by say “I think there’s a fire up in that building.” The building they’re talking about is the pink building from 1886 which is one of the oldest department store structures in New York. (Grand and Orchard) Robert IMMEDIATELY called 911 and told them to bring trucks with ladders!

The fire department arrived with in minutes however what started as tiny little flames was a full on blaze on the first floor. The fire fighters got up there and finally put it out however the fire kept spreading and going up. Just when you thought it was done there would be smoke coming from the floor above and then BOOM flames. We felt so helpless just seeing the flames move up towards the roof. At one point there were flames going for awhile on the third floor. They started small and then quickly started getting bigger. It was hard not to be frustrated and ask why the firefighters just let it go but we had to trust that they had a strategy plan. 

It was crazy…you could see the firefighters on each floor doing their job. The guys on the third floor were ripping the roof down and then spraying water to the floor above them. At one point I thought I was watching a movie!

It was all put out in probably 30 minutes and thank goodness!! The Pink building was saved!
